Avast web shield continuously checks the information that is transferred when you browse the web and stops any potential threats in real time. This shields you from ransomware which blocks your files and requires payment to unlock them and Trojans that disguise themselves as legitimate software, but actually inject malware into your device. Web shield also detects phishing sites that attempt to steal personal information.
Avira offers multiple options to alter the way avast Web shield functions. For instance you can alter the sensitivity level, which controls how aggressively avast web shield examines data when you connect to the internet. You can also turn on and disable HTTPS scanning, as well as script scanning and block botnets. You can also make an exclusion list to block certain programs from being detected by the web shield.
If avast detects malware or a potentially unwanted program on your computer, it will attempt to repair the file first. If it’s not possible to repair it will be moved by avast to file to Quarantine and inform you of its discovery. You can also choose a default action avast takes when a threat has been detected.
You can add a site or application that you are confident is secure to the exceptions list so it isn’t blocked again. This can be done by selecting the Real-Time Shields tab, and then selecting the Web Shield or File Shield item from the list. The Avast Security app and Avast One app have distinct methods of adding apps or websites to the exceptions lists.
