Bitdefender is an excellent Mac antivirus program. It has a high level of malware detection and many other useful security features. However, the application isn’t without its weaknesses.
The default interface for the suite is like it easy to navigate and groups feature into three categories: Security Utilities, Privacy, and Protection. The Protection tab focuses on the features you’d expect from an antivirus suite, like real-time scanning, firewall monitoring, and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab discusses ways to stay safe on internet, such as a secure browser that runs websites within the sandbox, to block malware from infecting the normal browser. The Utilities tab is a place to find optimization tools and a file shredder that erases files using exclusive algorithms, making them unrecoverable even if they are deleted.
Premium plans also come with password management, as well as an option known as “Anti-Tracker” that can stop websites from tracking you excessively. The program comes with a vulnerability scanner that can identify outdated software and passwords that are weak or insecure, as well as Windows updates that haven’t been applied. It also provides a speedy customized scan that takes only five minutes to complete, which is quicker than competitors like Norton and TotalAV.
The only downside of the app is that it takes an incredibly long time to install which may be frustrating to users who are eager to get started. In addition, the app’s “Reveal in Finder” option isn’t working it seems like a strange decision for an antivirus software that competes with rival applications that can accomplish exactly the same thing in only few clicks.
